"Richard W Penhollow, born in New London, CT., descent from a long line of sterling New England ancestors, a family that was founded in AMerica in the colonial era of history." "He was reared and educated in Conn. and came to Iowa about 1850, settled in Section 4, Mallory Twp., Clayton Co., Iowa on a tract of 160 acres of wild land obtained from the government. Parents of 13 children, they passed their lives in CLayton Co., honored pioneers, citizens who had the fullest measure of esteem and who contributed their quota to civic and material development and progress of the country. Both were members of the United Bretheren Church and Mr.Penhollow gave unfailing support to the Republican party."
