[Jennifer Leino] I remember Homer Durant Penhollow, who was my great-grandfather. He
was an eccentric person – he practiced organic gardening long before
the idea became mainstream, his house was filled with all sorts of
crazy gadgets, and he kept a menagerie of goats and dogs at his house.
As your web site notes, as a young man he played drums in a five-piece
band at dances and bars. He also made moonshine to earn extra money,
and my grandmother remembers their house in Ohio being raided shortly
before Prohibition ended. (She points out that by the time the case
went to trial, only two bottles of the seized beer were left – and the
police officers told Homer it was the best beer they’d ever had )
